Dartrey Monument Restoration Project

Our first big Project is about to start this is the, Dartrey Monument Restoration Project. To restore the Dawson Monument, to it's former glory erected 1807 in memory of M.P., Richard Dawson by the voters, the inscription reads thus:-

"This column was erected by the free and independent electors of the County of Monaghan, to perpetuate the memory of Richard Dawson Esq., who was unanimously returned by them to five successive Parliaments. He died their faithful representative, on 3rd of September, 1807, aged 44 years"  

 

 

 

Work has started today, all steps have being removed and stored.  

First stones removed from the base of the "Monument  Column",it gives everyone an

insight to the condition of the structure and it is looking good.

All the cladding cut stone has been removed from the base of the Monument and it is in very good

condition, much better than was expected. The next few pictures will give some insight to it's condition.

 

 

The final wash down, the work on the monument is complete.

 

 

 

 

The soil has been put back after the site been re shaped, soon the new railing will be

erected along the main roadway, overhead phone cables removed and put under ground,

grass sown, flood lighting installed car and foot path's completed.
