Famine Walk: A Walk through Time

Meet at the Canal Stores, Clones. Walks depart at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm

Walk around Clones town in the footsteps of Famine victims, guided by George Knight and Mary Cosgrove. Re-enactments by local primary schools on the following themes:

  • Blight sets in
  • Famine Works
  • Soup Kitchen
  • Eviction
  • Roadside deaths
  • Emigration
  • The Workhouse

There is no charge for these walks but booking is essential and places are limited. We can accommodate groups, including school groups, or individuals.

This event is part of the 'Celebrating our Cultural Diversity' project, organised by Clogher Historical Society, the Cahans Project and Knockatallon Ramblers. The project is funded by the International Fund for Ireland and is managed by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council (RDC) under the Integrating Communities Programme.
