Marsh's
Library
Founded in 1701, Marsh's Library was the first public library in Ireland and celebrated its 300th anniversary
in 2001. The library contains over 25,000
books relating to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, covering medicine, law, science, travel, navigation,
mathematics, music, surveying and classical literature.

Monaghan County Library
Good collection of local history reference books, copies of Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith's Valuation for
the county, Northern Standard newspaper and
archival material including estate and local government records.
National Archives of Ireland
Government records and reports, birth, marriage and death records, school registers (list of registers given),
genealogical manuscripts, some estate
records for County Monaghan. The 1911 census is now available and free to
search.
National Folklore Collections (UCD)
Manuscript and oral collections relating to folklore including the Schools Folklore Collection of material
collected in national schools in 1937-8.
National Library of Ireland
Amongst many other treasures, the library holds estate records for some Monaghan estates: Leslie of Glaslough,
Crofton, Dawson of Dartrey, Bath of
